To weather the storm - Georgios Chatzakis

Product information "To weather the storm - Georgios Chatzakis"

‘Immersing myself in these landscapes I find myself again, like I belong there. I reflect, write, meditate, photograph, feel, smell, sense…’

Chatzakis explores walking in the British and Irish landscapes as a process for healing trauma. Alienated by places of comfort, these barren landscapes possess his body and guide him to rediscover himself. Chatzakis’ interest in analogue processes take root in the materiality of the medium and the ritual involved in creating a spontaneous image.

Through making the work, Georgios discovered an interest in how different narratives reveal themselves through various media such as a large-scale installation or a book. How can trauma be revealed when looking at these sublime landscapes? The fragmented photographs represent a parallel between the weathering rocks and an inner storm, where edges have no limit and the neutral and uncharacterized become authentic through ambiguous interpretation. The publication reveals a personal reflection, an intimate experience of losing oneself in contemplation. From the feel, touch, and smell, the viewer can engage with the image but also has the element of leaving their own imprint on the book, which at some point will disintegrate through time and use.
